About @ADHD_Dyslexia Village Community

Hello Parent Members!

You can find me in the MPC community app under the username @DesertMom. I’m so excited to connect with all of you and share a bit about my journey.

My daughter was diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD at 11 years old. For years, her symptoms were overlooked—masked by an autoimmune disease—until we transitioned to a more progressive private school that finally recognized what was happening. It’s been a whirlwind since then, but a year later, we’re beginning to organize our lives in ways that celebrate and support her incredible superpowers.

Of course, just when we think we’ve figured things out, something shifts. It’s like trying to solve a constantly changing equation! Between body changes, hormones, tech updates, medical appointments, and everything in between, it often feels like we’re always on duty.

But I wouldn’t be where I am today without the generosity of others—both friends and strangers—who paused their busy lives to answer my countless questions. Many of those strangers have now become friends, and it’s because of their support that I want to give back here at MyParent Cafe.

Why MyParent Cafe?

This platform is designed specifically for parents, offering a space to ask questions, find solutions, and feel supported. Unlike other social media groups, which often try to fill this role but fall short, MyParent Cafe is purpose-built for parents’ needs.

One standout feature is IRIS, the AI Co-Parent, which quickly summarizes current wisdom and resources when you need immediate answers. But the magic doesn’t stop there—it’s up to us, as a community of parents, to build a growing Village where we share insights, advice, and encouragement.

My Role in Our Village

As a leader in this community, my goal is to help the Village grow while maintaining a supportive and welcoming environment. I’m here to connect, share what I’ve learned, and learn from others with more experience. Together, we can make this journey a little less daunting for each other.

I’m looking forward to connecting with you more in the app when you join as a Member. Let’s build something amazing together!

Warmly,
@DesertMom

Hello Parent Members

You can find me in the MPC community app under the username @Jen P

I found school challenging because of the difficulty I experienced in understanding certain concepts. Despite hours of studying with friends and tutors, I often did not achieve the grades I aimed for, and I felt that teachers did not always inquire about or offer support for my struggles. This motivated me to pursue a career in education, with the goal of caring for students and helping them overcome similar challenges. After many years of teaching, I discovered my true passion as a reading specialist. Through specialized training in dyslexia screening, I realized that I am dyslexic myself, which clarifies some of the difficulties I faced, such as comprehending certain materials, needing to reread texts multiple times, rewriting notes, and experiencing challenges with testing. Over the past 28 years, I have taught in both public and private schools and am currently working as an interventionist at a school dedicated to supporting students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. My mission is to assist parents in navigating the complexities of diagnosis and to support their children in achieving their personal success.

Help the Village Grow

If you know a parent of an child with ADHD and/or Dyslexia, please send them the link to this page so that they can join. MyParent Cafe - ADHD/Dyslexia - doesn't replace any of the existing communities that exist on traditional social media. We see this as a complimentary and ultimately safer and more helpful platform.

We're also looking for a few more Baristas for this ADHD/Dyslexia community. Baristas are the moderators and community stewards. As we grow, I do hope to invite a mix of parents, medical providers, education and behavioral specialists and non-profit representatives to help ensure the community needs are met.

Finally. We are looking for ADHD/Dyslexia PERK providers. Any product, service or non-profit dedicated to helping to meet the needs of the this parent community are invited to submit an interest form on our PERK page. We'll be sure to get back to you right away.
